| Employer Health Benefit Survey 2007
This national employer survey provides a detailed look at trends
in employer-based health coverage, including changes in premiums, employee
contributions, cost sharing policies and other relevant information.
The 2007 survey included 1,839 public and
private firms with three or more employees. The Kaiser Family
Foundation and the Health Research and Educational Trust jointly conduct the survey. California Employer Health Benefits Survey - 2007
Health insurance premiums increased by 8.3 percent in California
in 2007. This was higher than the 8.7% in 2006 and the cumulative effect
has been an 86.3% increase since
2002. The 2007
California Employer Health Benefits Survey
released by the California
HealthCare Foundation (CHCF), however, still finds health insurance costs outstripped the overall 3.4 percent statewide
inflation rate.
Conducted by The Center for Studying Health System Change (HSC), the annual survey
highlights statistics and trends specific to California and provides comparisons between the
state and the nation.

A survey of California employers released by the California Healthcare Foundation and the Health Research and Educational Trust (HRET) shows that premiums for employer sponsored health insurance increased 15.8% in 2003, higher than the national average increase of 13.9% and nearly seven times the rate of inflation. Over the past three years, total premiums for family coverage in California increased by almost 42%. Workers contributions for family coverage increased by nearly 70%.
